Microchipping

If your pet should go missing, microchipping is a great way to ensure that you will be reunited quickly. Most species can be microchipped, and it will become compulsory by law in Scotland for all dogs from early 2016. Until January 2015 we are running Free Microchipping clinics with our Vet Nurses in conjunction with Dogs Trust.

It is a sad fact that thousands of pets go missing every year and many are never reunited with their owners. Whilst collars and tags can become snagged and easily lost, the good news is that microchipping is a permanent method of identification.

The microchip is the size of a grain of rice and the procedure, which is carried out by a Vet or Vet Nurse, takes only a few minutes and lasts a lifetime.

Each microchip contains a unique code, which together with your pet's details and address are stored on a central database. Veterinary practices, the police and welfare organisations all have scanners so they are able to routinely check stray pets. Do remember to notify the database if you change your contact details.

Animal Health Certificate's

When travelling with your pet dog, cat or ferret, the rules you must follow depend on the country you’re going to or coming from. Please see the DEFRA website for full details of the Pet Travel Scheme.
