Shetland Vets Environmental Policy

At Shetland Vets, we are working toward our RCVS Environmental Accreditation and recognises that we have a responsibility to the environment beyond legal and regulatory requirements. We are committed to reducing our environmental impact and continually improving our environmental performance as an integral part of our business strategy and operating methods.

We will encourage clients, suppliers, and other stakeholders to do the same.

RCVS Environmental Sustainability Module


RCVS new module came into effect from 1 June 2023 and contains Core Standards and General Practice level requirements, which would need to be met by all PSS practices at the relevant accreditation levels.

    • Committed to calculating carbon footprint, regular assessment, and targeted reduction.

    • Continually improve and reduce environmental impacts.

    • Incorporate environmental factors into business decisions.

    • Increase employee awareness and training.

  • Lisa Trueman, RVN and Sustainability Officer is responsible for ensuring that this environmental

    policy is implemented, however, all employees have a responsibility in their area to ensure that the

    aims and objectives of this policy are met.

    • Reduce the use of anaesthetic gases by using MAC sparing anaesthetic and analgesic protocols.

    • Promote responsible and safe use of parasiticides, reducing environmental impacts.

    • Ensure client awareness on the appropriate use, handling, and disposal of veterinary medicines.

    • Promote good drug stock control reducing waste.

Our Pet health plan works in collaboration with Easy Direct Debits who donate to the remarkable company “Tree Nation”.
Tree Nation allows citizens and companies to plant trees all around the world and offset their CO2 emissions.
Shetland Vets holds a forest with Tree nation and has planted trees as far as Madagascar and California in the hope of helping Tree nation reach their target of planting 1 Trillion trees by 2050
